Holy Ascension of Christ Orthodox Church was founded in 2007 with the ordination of our pastor Fr. Nicholas Chernjavsky. Holy Ascension is a welcoming home to all searching for “the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.”- [Jude 1:3] Our growing parish is located just outside the city of Rochester and is accessible to all within the Rochester area. Our mission is to be light to the world around us and to call all to the fullness of faith in Jesus Christ in His Church. We are the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church founded on the rock of the apostles. All are welcome to join our community of believers in worship of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!
Our Synod
Holy Ascension of Christ Orthodox Church is under the Episcopacy of His Eminence, Metropolitan Demetrius of New York. His line of Apostolic Succession traces directly back to the Holy Apostles.
The Church of the Genuine Orthodox Christians in America is a semi-autonomous eparchy of the Church of the Genuine Orthodox Christians of Greece under the presidency of His Eminence Metropolitan Kallinikos of Athens. The Metropolis of America was officially established in 1969 when the holy synod of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia (ROCOR) recognized Metropolitan Petros of blessed memory as Bishop of Astoria. Metropolitan Demetrius was enthroned as the 3rd Metropolitan of America in Saint Markella’s Cathedral in New York City on April 28th 2014. Metropolitan Demetrius currently resides at Saint John of San Francisco Monastery in Cobleskill, New York.
